Would you sponsor this child?
She is a sixth grade student attending St. Augustine School. Here are the comments of her team of interviewers, Vicky D. Chua, Alfredo J Somera, and Leonard Buenavista:
Karen Paola Bunoan Makil (grade point average 91.62% ) from Brgy Del Pilar, is 11 years old and is the second child in the family, the younger of two siblings. Her brother is 12 years old. She's an outstanding student (meaning: has a general overall average of 89% or better). She answers all our questions very confidently, is very relaxed and friendly. Her father is currently jobless and does not have an income. He helps a family relative run a bakery in Candon City, Ilocos Sur. Karen's mother works as a saleslady in Senior Citizen Drugstore and earns around PhP5,000 (five thousand pesos) a month. Her family has a relative abroad who sometimes gives financial assistance to help defray some of Karen's tuition fees. This help however, is not regularly given. When asked about her responsibilities as a scholar, she told us she will voluntarily teach (tutor) younger children, help fix the library, help in the church work and community activities.
Karen is given an allowance of PhP20 pesos. Her grades in the following subjects are as follows: 91% in Math and 92% in Religion. She answers simple Math questions with great ease, for example, converting decimals to fractions and vice versa. She also helps in the household chores and her ambition is to be successful chef someday. Why? Because she wants to cook food for the poor people so that they may be made healthy. When we asked her if she thinks she is qualified to be a SAS Ai scholar she gave a resounding answer, "YES SIR," with so much confidence embellished with a bright smile! She is computer literate. We ended our interview with a tight handshake! We are giving Karen Paola Makil a 3 star rating and recommend her strongly as our grade six full high school scholarship winner based on our interview and her application.
Karen is just one student among many... who need our help.
We at SAS Ai feel for these young, bright, and promising kids. We care that they get at least a high school education and we recommend our Alma Mater very highly as the school they should attend.
We are also asking our readers to support us in this effort by sponsoring a child with a high school scholarship award. You would be surprised at how easy it is to sponsor a child's high school education at SAS.
First, if you do it through SAS Ai, your gift or support donation will be tax deductible since SAS Ai is a public charity organization that is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3), tax exempt, non-profit organization.
Secondly, the cost per year is very affordable. For the school year 2010-2011, a first year high school student would need a total of $1800.00 for 4 years. The funds are broken down for the school year to pay for:
