Scholars Sleep Over at Albert's 10-15-11
Our whole day was a complete success! Everything we planned we carried out. It was good to hear that everybody was happy and very satisfied with the fun-filled day of bonding, discussions and learning. All 9 freshmen and the 9 sophomores came prepared for this exciting day.
After giving them some instructions, house rules, what they can expect and my expectations, etc., we began our planned activities. There were group studies, though some wanted to study by themselves - which was fine but with the caveat that at some point in time during the day they will attend to the group sessions and be part of the bigger group.
The Rev. Badong, our newly installed parish priest came to San Pedro to celebrate a Barangay Mass at the San Pedro Community school. We attended the Barangay Mass and right after we took a souvenir shot with Fr. Badong (in the white shirt with TAGAYTAY printed on it). (Please see below photos).
A hearty dinner (of three or four main courses) that evening was followed by an hour of discussion. We then broke out into buzz groups for some discussion, comparing notes and shared study time. Again there were some who preferred to review their lessons by themselves, while others kept themselves occupied with school projects.
I was told that if there was one thing our scholars enjoyed the most, it was eating their hearts out as I stuffed them with really nutritious, variegated vayands, tasty, palatable, deliciously heavy meals and snacks. As usual, I had to stay up late till 3 am because the scholars were staying awake and not retiring for the night. I wondered where they were getting all their energy. Would you believe that not a single one of them felt sleepy all night that night? They were buzzing and jumping around like a bunch of electrified beans. I think a better name for this type of activity would be "All Night Stay Awake Over" instead of a sleep over.
Anyway, I am hoping that this kind of supervised activity will help them not only to boost their grades but also to develop, enhance and strengthen their self-confidence. I pray they all reach their full potential becoming active leaders in and out of school.
I have made arrangements with some SAS faculty members to come assist me if ever an activity like this is going to happen again in the future. The good news is they all expressed interest with the idea and that they are more than willing to share their time, services, and expertise pro bono.
