                                            Hello Everyone:

Let me share with you a letter I sent to the Officers and Board of Trustees with the hope of persuading you to understand, soliciting your consideration and counting on your positive and affirmative action on the areas of Scholarship, SAS Centennial Celebration, Project: Feed the Poor and the Hungry. And let me call this:  AN APPEAL TO REMEMBER

SCHOLARSHIP - I earnestly request your continued moral encouragement and unwavering financial support to this on-going SAS Ai mission, goal and endeavor. Our 12 scholars will not be the last ones we will have supported. There are a lot more deserving students in Tagudin and we are preparing to launch our campaign for the school year 2011. We need you to join us, not only in name and thought but also in your unstinting expression of generosity. Translate your financial understanding into action by using your credit cards (we accept VISA, MC, and DISC) to transact your donations. The tangible and intangible returns on your generosities in the eyes of the Almighty are “priceless”.

SAS 2010 CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION - Please join us in celebrating SAS 100th Anniversary. If you cannot be in Tagudin this December 2010, join us anyway even if only in spirit. We need your prayers so that SAS Ai’s planned activity participation will emerge a success. And if you plan to be in Tagudin, you can help ensure our goal of spreading cheers to all by your solid financial support that will translate into free centennial souvenirs, free community picnic culminating with a free community ball. With your prayers and moral support, SAS Ai may even provide a pro bono Teachers’ Workshop for all the educators from the public school and SAS. But we badly need your help, participation, collaboration and cooperation.

PROJECT: FEED THE POOR AND THE HUNGRY - Join us in our on-going discussions on this worthy and noble cause. We need ideas, opinions and input from everybody. No single entity has a monopoly when it comes to meeting the needs of our less fortunate “cailians”. You can join us in our SAS Ai BLOG or you can start a thread in this SAS Ai wiki website.

This will be quite an undertaking, the magnitude of which will need and require everybody’s participation starting from the first sketches on the drawing board, to the planning and to its implementation. SAS Ai, by itself, will not be able to do it alone. This is a project that needs universal support not only from Tagudinians all over the world but from all caring people like you.

Here is my letter dated August 21, 2010

Vicky must have touched a lot of soft chords and emotions judging from the lively and very inspiring discussion on this topic. It is true also that a few months back, Tina brought up this idea of feeding the poor and hungry. At that time however, we were so deep and concentrated in the processing of scholarship applications not knowing what the right hand was doing from the left and sailing using dead reckoning. At that time the one flow of thought centered on -scholarship.

When Vicky resurrected the idea a couple of weeks ago, I requested that you hold that  thought and at the same time requested all of you to join in the discussion. I speculated, when I said that maybe we should start doing something concrete towards that end by midyear next year, that furthermore our first scholarship school year would be without a doubt a success. And it seems, based on the discussion that we are having, most of you share that same optimism of having a successful first scholarship year. I hope and pray that all of us are right.

While I encouraged further discussion on this topic, let us not lose sight of more immediate activities we have already committed ourselves into. I am referring to our Centennial activities. We have on the table three (3) main activities: The souvenir giveaways (with the gift shop wrapped in it), the picnic and the community ball. I hope we will be successful in the 4th one - the Teachers Workshop. To date, we seem to have taken care of the Picnic but we have the Souvenir giveaways and the Community Ball still to deal with. As all of you might already know, we already sent funds for the souvenirs to Melanie, and so too with the orchestra.

Let me ask that we temporarily table the Feed the poor and the hungry discussion, rouse up your intensities and ask you these realistic questions.

Can we address and tackle the completion of the Souvenir and Orchestra commitments? To put it bluntly, we have these monetary obligations facing us and they are due very, very soon.

We also have to start making specific and clear distinctions of our funds based on the needs and the expressed desires of donors.

Unlike the Project: Feed the Poor and the Hungry, these are no longer subject to discussion, they are no longer on the drawing board, they are halfway to realization and we must do something about their funding. I hope I have not overlooked anything else.

Sorry to be a KJ on a Saturday afternoon but if there is a good time to think about these, it would be on a nice Saturday evening. God bless all of you and don't forget to go to Church on Sunday, if you have not yet done so. Thank you very much and God Bless us all.
