Melanie Florentino, SAS Ai Director of Sales and Marketing sent this concept of an information booth and kiosk for the Centennial celebration. Here are highlights of this set up that we all need to be talking about.

The Tarp
Notice that the backdrop tarp is designed so that we can use it as the ballroom backdrop during the Centennial Ball. In order for us to use it and re-use it, the tarp necessarily must be portable. We have talked about tying it down through grommets to a scaffolding frame. This way we can tear it down and reassemble it in a jiffy.

The Main Table
On the information table we will have a laptop, jars of jelly beans and lollipops. We should also have a game "Guess how many Jelly Beans are in the glass jar" - this would provide some activity while other folks may be registering for the raffle or checking out the Centennial merchandise.

The Lectern
Off to the left is the lectern or podium that the MC can use to make all the announcements. Perhaps we can rent a Karaoke system or a sound system.

Your Ideas and Comments
We are soliciting your ideas and comments regarding this set up. By the time we are required to set up this table, it will be too late to be making suggestions. Do it today.

THE PICNIC

After all is said and done, there is only so much that we can expect from well meaning people who, without so much as being asked, have volunteered to donate FOR FREE certain foods to the picnic. For example, Steamed Rice, Fresh Pork, Seaweeds, Spices, Kid Goatmeat, Beef, Chicken, Seafood, Various Condiments, Tomatoes, Onions, Salt, Hot Peppers and Beverages are a few of the food items volunteered.

But we are also all realists. We know that we need plastic utensils, paper plates, styrofoam cups, napkins, desserts, ice and other various and sundry last minute items that need to be purchased in order to serve the meal. We make the purchases with MONEY. Yes, money.

The COMMUNITY DANCE

There will be no charges at the gate, nor tickets to be sold, nor any fund raising during the affair. It is FREE. Will they have a live band? Or are they going to spin discs? Or use laptop computers to run their videoke machines?

Of course there will be a live band. What does it take to hire a live band? MONEY. Yes, money.

By the way, remember those raffle tickets that we distributed during the first days of the celebration? We are going to draw and announce some winners during the evening of the dance. What a great idea. But what should we give for prizes? Do we have any sponsors coming to the forefront offering such awards? I heard somebody say, "It's still too early. Just wait. We will have all kinds of people who will gladly sponsor these prizes." Oh, okay. I can wait. But bottom line is, what will it take to secure such prizes? MONEY. Yes, cold, hard cash.

The KIOSK

How wonderful to see our scholars getting into the act. They are manning the booth - chaperoned by an adult member of SAS Ai of course. They are there to answer questions about our organization:
  • How did you kids get those scholarship awards?
  • Who gave them to you?
  • What is SAS Ai anyway?
  • How come you are forming another group when there is already an AA?
  • What makes you think that you are necessary?
  • Hey, do you have any souvenirs?
  • Who is in charge here?
Our scholars are very polite and accommodating. "No Sir, we don't give money to anybody." "We are here to answer your questions." "No Ma'am we are just students here at SAS."

These promotionals... the ballpoint pens with the SAS Ai logo, the baseball caps with the SAS Ai logo, the cups with the SAS Ai logo - where did all these things come from? Oh those... well, they were purchased. Yes, with MONEY.

There is no escaping the fact that we need money to pull this off. Members of SAS Ai, please, it's not too early to begin looking for sponsors, donors, contributors, helpers, and supporters. Scan your network of friends, your batchmates, classmates, college mates, and co-workers. We need all the help we can get.
