Everlyn Jamandra was selected as one of the nine scholarship finalists for school year 2011 based on her strong scholastic performance, well written application essay and her family's financial need. She and her family come from Barangay Sagat in the Santa Cruz township. Everlyn graduated salutatorian of her sixth grade graduating class with a grade point average of 91% in Math, her favorite subject. She placed third in a painting competition as part of a Poster-making contest and Math Festival held in the town of Sinait, Ilocos Sur. A very talented individual, Everlyn also received a special award in a broadcasting competition.
Everlyn's father Jaime works primarily as a tenant farmer, planting rice and raising other cash crops. His other marketable talents include plumbing and auto mechanic skills. Everlyn's mother Jasmin works part time as a saleslady in the public market open only on Sundays. The family of six (parents and four children) survives mainly on Jaime's income from his farming, plumbing and mechanical jobs. Jasmin's mere pittance of an income is used mainly to augment the money budgeted for food.
